For the past four decades, I have been a community leader and pastor in Hampton Roads, Virginia. I travel extensively across the nation. I interact daily with people from the current generation, as well as the older generation. I am seeing a huge need for this generation to be taught how to implement professional skills, or soft skills, into their work and daily lives. I believe that we are at a crisis point in terms of the lack of these skills being utilized among our youth and the emerging generation of future leaders.

Dr. Kirk Houston, Sr., is a highly respected community leader in Hampton Roads, Virginia. He is the Founder and Senior Pastor of Gethsemane Community Fellowship Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia. He started with 35 people and has growth the church to over 2,000 members.
Kirk serves as a College Board Member for Tidewater Community College, based in Norfolk, Virginia. He is the former Chairman of the Norfolk City Public School Board. He is also the Chairman of the Garden of Hope Community Development Corporation. He serves as Chairman of the Norfolk Jail Ministry Board of Directors and Chaplain of the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office.
Kirk is a U.S. Navy veteran. He graduated from the historic HBCU Virginia Union Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Kirk, and his wife Sharon, have two grown children and four grandchildren.
